Angry voters sometimes toss out incumbents, but that wasn’t the case Tuesday in Delray Beach, where Cary Glickstein won re-election as mayor with support from residents frustrated by over-development and traffic congestion.
With all precincts reporting Tuesday evening, Glickstein appeared to have won a solid victory over his predecessor, former mayor Thomas Carney.
“Tom Carney and I were in office for the same length of time,” Glickstein said. “The voters liked my record better.”
Glickstein will now serve three years as mayor, holding City Commission seat No. 5. He’ll be joined on the commission by Mitchell Katz, who beat back three opponents to win seat No. 3.
“The people of this town had enough of special interests controlling things,” Katz said. “We took control of this election and didn’t let special interests control it.”
